Data We Collect

When you use BillSnitch, we collect the following information:

  • Your email address and account credentials
  • Transaction data retrieved via Plaid (recurring charges, merchant names, amounts, dates)
  • Subscription and billing information managed through Stripe
  • Usage data such as alert preferences and dismissed notifications

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used exclusively to provide the BillSnitch service:

  • Monitor your recurring subscriptions for price changes
  • Deliver alerts when price increases are detected
  • Generate AI-powered complaint letters on your behalf
  • Process subscription payments

We never sell your data to third parties or use it for advertising.

Data Security

  • Bank connections use Plaid's read-only access — we can never initiate transactions or modify your accounts
  • Sensitive credentials are encrypted using Supabase Vault with AES-256 encryption
  • All data access is protected by Row Level Security (RLS) policies, ensuring you can only access your own data
  • All traffic is encrypted in transit via TLS

Data Retention

We retain your transaction and subscription data for up to 18 months to enable historical price tracking and trend analysis. After 18 months, data is automatically purged. If you delete your account, all associated data is removed within 30 days.

Third-Party Services

BillSnitch relies on the following third-party services to operate:

  • Plaid — Secure bank account connections and transaction retrieval
  • Stripe — Payment processing and subscription management
  • Resend — Transactional email delivery (alerts, confirmations)
  • Anthropic — AI-powered complaint letter generation

Each service operates under its own privacy policy. We only share the minimum data required for each service to function.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access — Request a copy of all data we hold about you
  • Deletion — To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at support@billsnitch.com
  • Disconnection — Revoke bank access at any time by disconnecting your accounts in Settings
